PRP Joint Therapy in Waterloo, IA

Platelet Rich Plasma Joint Therapy

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, a part of your blood that contains a high concentration of platelets.

PRP is known to contain large quantities of growth factors that attract stem cells and stimulate the healing of damaged tissues.

PRP joint therapy is a revolutionary new development for treating musculoskeletal pain and injuries. It is a simple in-office procedure in which a patient’s own PRP is injected into the area of injury/pain. This promotes the body’s natural healing process and helps repair and rebuild the damaged tissue. This enhanced healing process leads to a faster and more efficient restoration of the injured tissue to a healthy state, thereby improving pain and overall function.

Evolve Aesthetics and Regenerative Medicine is proud to offer these new revolutionary treatments to treat your chronic pain. Evolve works closely with Arthrex®, the leader in orthobiologics and PRP.

A special collection tube is used to draw your blood first. The collection tube is then placed into a centrifuge that spins the blood. This separates the blood into different layers. The concentrated platelets are drawn up into a syringe.

Injections are given at the site of injury with a local anesthetic, using the smallest gauge needle possible, to reduce pain at the injection site. The PRP injection procedure is usually minimally painful and similar to that of any other type of injection.

One session usually lasts 30 minutes to an hour.

You may resume normal activities after PRP joint injection. You can expect some mild redness, swelling, and possible bruising at the injection sites. The PRP injection procedure is usually minimally painful and similar to that of any other type of injection. Even though it may be somewhat uncomfortable, it’s important to remember that it is creating a healing response. Some individuals do report an “achy” soreness at the site of injury, just a few hours following the injection. This soreness is a positive sign that the healing process has been set in motion. This effect can last for up to 3–7 days and will gradually decrease as healing and tissue repair occur.
There is a possibility of increased pain and an allergic reaction from the local anesthetics used during the procedure. Although rare, infection of the structures near the injection site could occur as well. Nerve or tissue damage could also occur.

Some individuals may see improvement right away, more often within 2 weeks. The PRP joint therapy is designed to promote long-term healing of the injured tissue. The regeneration of connective tissue can continue for months. Some individuals may possibly require multiple injections to get the tissue regeneration and pain relief desired.

Individual results can vary during the period of regeneration.

Final price dependent on consultation with your aesthetic provider and number of joints injected. Typically, pricing starts at $600. Angel® PRP pricing starts at $900.

You should not receive a PRP joint injection if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Likewise, you should not receive a PRP joint injection if you have an active infection of the joint/skin/or surrounding tissues.

It is best to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), naproxen (Aleve), and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications 7 days prior to the procedure to reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising, as well as fish oil.
